Welcome to Atlanta

Welcome to Atlanta

livin’ the good life (on the cheap)

So for the past three months or so, I have been interning and haven’t really been cooking. I have been eating premade meals and eating fast food wayyy too much. But after a binge on Taco Bell, I decided enough is enough. I am going to stop putting this crap in my body and get back in the kitchen. For the past few months, I have been cringing at the grocery store and only getting the bare necessities because I didn’t want to spend money. The ironic thing is I had no problem getting take out three or more nights a week.

Today, I put the horrible cycle to an end. I woke up, went to the Grant Park Farmers Market and got fresh green beans, zucchini, bell pepper and poblanos. Then, I went over to Trader Joe’s and got the rest of my groceries. I only spent about $40, and have enough to make delicious meals for the next week, and maybe more.

Tonight, I made goat cheese stuffed pork chops with a balsamic and pear glaze with green beans. So amazing. I made enough for dinner and lunch tomorrow, so I’m sure my coworkers will be jealous. Best part: the meal was well under $5 per serving and so much better than a McDouble. So my advice to everyone, stop being lazy and start living the good life with gourmet meals at home. It only takes about 30 mins to make a delicious dish. In Atlanta traffic, it takes that long to just to get a fast food hamburger and come back. Treat yourself right. Go buy groceries and cook at home.

I consume all the sadness
That you throw over me
And I spin like a compass
That don’t know where you be

I don’t know
I don’t know
I don’t know

Look around at who you have tonight
Look around your little soul
I will stay to keep you warm, girl
I’m not here to bring you down

The future that is… the real world. The rest of my life. I have less than 100 days until I graduate and I have no clue what I will be doing in 3 months. How do I feel about this? Excited, nervous, terrified, hopeful, gracious for change. The past month has been such a roller coaster, and I’m sure it is only going to get more crazy. Job interviews, more job prospects, my own realizations of what I do or do not want to do after graduation. I am free and open to at least consider any opportunity, but should I have a more narrow mindset? This is just my stream of consciousness set out for the world. Being a senior is such a weird feeling.

Ode to Little Italy

I haven’t posted in a while, so I thought I would begin again with one of my favorite subjects, food, and my favorite restaurants, Little Italy. Little Italy has been an Athens staple, mostly known for its late night cult following and grumpy cashiers. My affection for Little Italy, however, goes way past the 3 a.m. drunken binge. I have cravings for the tongue-tantilizing fare if I go too long without a visit. Oh the pizza! the subs! the greek salad!

The workers may not be the friendliest at closing time with a line wrapped around the corner of drunken college students, but would you be a ray of sunshine? I think not. But despite their distain for the patrons, they do give you heapings of toppings and I have never gotten my order messed up. The day-shift is slightly cheerier. Today I ordered a turkey and cheese sub to-go because I can’t eat the massive loaf stuffed with deliciousness all at once, and the smoking hot Italian that took my order offered to only bag half.

Basically, I love Little Italy. I might be one of their biggest fans. I could eat it any time of the day, everyday. And today, pranzo buonissimo!

Judge’s rap wrapped up this case

In a Michigan Court of Appeals case, Deangelo Bailey attempted to sue Eminem, a.k.a. Marshall Bruce Mathers III, for false light in 2005. Eminem was granted summary disposition and clever trial judge, Deborah A. Servitto, wrote this in the footnote:

Those false light charges that so disturbed

Prompted from Bailey not a single word

So highly objectionable, it could not be

-Bailey was so happy to hear his name on a CD

Bailey also admitted he was a bully in youth

Which makes what Marshall said substantial truth

This doctrine is a defense well known

And renders Bailey’s case substantially blown.

Thank you Servitto, for making studying communication law slightly more enjoyable.
